Johan Neeskens is known as one of the best footballers of the world, being rated at the 64th position in the prestigious magazine FourFourTwo list of the 100 all-time greatest players. He started his career at his hometown side, the Racing Club Heemstede, in 1968. Soon he caught the eyes of legendary coach Rinus Michels, who took him to Ajax Amsterdam in 1970. There he established himself as a brilliant midfielder, remembered for his speed, stamina, strong set of skills and a knack for scoring goals. In 1979 he joined the New York Cosmos, to form one of the most memorable teams of all time, playing alongside Pele and Johan Cruyff. He played for the Dutch National Team in the 1974 FIFA World Cup alongside football genius Johan Cruyff, in memorable matches that shook the world with their Totaalvoetbal, or Total Football. He also played the 1978 World Cup, when’s role was more crucial than ever, scoring astonishing 17 goals in all the editions. As an assistant manager he worked with great teams like Barcelona and Galastasaray and even national teams, as his own country’s and Australia’s.
